For Ava, getting her first apartment is about so much more than having a new address. It is a meaningful milestone in her journey toward stability, independence, and a future she is working hard to build. But getting there wasn’t easy. Background barriers made finding an apartment feel nearly impossible, creating obstacles that could have kept this next chapter out of reach.
That’s where community partnership made a difference. Harbour Hope partnered with Housing Connector, stepping in to advocate alongside Ava and help navigate the challenges standing between her and stable housing. They worked to address application hurdles, communicate with property owners, and help create a pathway forward when the process felt overwhelming. Throughout the process, their responsiveness and quick communication made a meaningful difference, helping keep things moving and ensuring barriers could be addressed as they arose.
And then came a moment worth celebrating: Ava officially moved into her new home—with her name on the lease for the very first time!
For Ava, those keys represent more than a place to live. They represent stability, dignity, independence, and the opportunity to begin building a home and a future of her own. After facing barriers that made housing feel almost impossible, she now has a safe place from which to continue moving forward.
We are incredibly grateful for the Housing Connector team for walking alongside Ava and helping remove barriers to stable housing. Their advocacy, responsiveness, and commitment are a beautiful example of what can happen when a community comes together around a survivor—not simply to meet an immediate need, but to create a pathway toward lasting stability and restoration.
Ava’s story isn’t defined by the barriers she faced. It is being shaped by the doors that opened when a community chose to walk alongside her. Her first apartment is a new beginning, and we are honored to celebrate this step toward the freedom, dignity, and independence she is working to build.
