For Lisa, the topic of human trafficking became more than a cause—it became a calling to fight. It started when a friend invited her to an event hosted by Harbour Hope International. The more she learned, the more her heart was stirred to get involved. Lisa joined Harbour Hope’s Prayer Team, committing herself to interceding for survivors.
Her journey of understanding deepened as she read Renting Lacy, a raw look at the realities of trafficking, and Threads of Hope, by Harbour Hope’s founder Merrie Karimov, that revealed the heart behind mentorship.
“That book showed me what walking alongside someone truly looks like,” Lisa says.
Having survived her own experiences in abusive and violent relationships, Lisa carries compassion that runs deep.
“I know what it feels like to be stuck,” she shares. “That’s why I don’t judge—I just want to listen and pray.”
Through joining the prayer team and stepping into mentorship, Lisa has found purpose in the pain she once endured.
“I’m all about prayer and warring on behalf of Harbour Hope and the survivors. It speaks to my soul. Giving a voice to those marginalized feels like a calling.”
There’s a saying that resonates deeply with her: “Those who made it through the fire go back and carry water to those still in it.” For Lisa, that’s what Harbour Hope does every day—returning to the flames of trauma and despair with hands full of healing, faith, and love.
“We’ve seen our share of fires, but through them, we’ve learned to rely on God for every step. That’s what we want to share with survivors—how to have hope.”
Lisa became a Freedom Fighter, volunteering with Harbour Hope to help equip survivors with mentorship, prayer, and the compassionate support they need to heal. Just like Lisa, you can read Threads of Hope to gain a deeper perspective on what it means to embody compassion, turn empathy into action, and bring hope to a suffering world.
