Coming off the streets, Maya didn’t have any resources until she learned about Harbour Hope from her manager at work who went through the program.
“Before, I would experience trauma riding the bus, I would be late to work, and I didn’t know what to do with my schooling or who to talk to. Stepping into Harbour Hope pushed me out of my comfort zone because I first had thoughts like, ‘They’re not gonna help me. They’re gonna judge me.'”
“Then God told me to just do it. At 18, I left home and bounced around transitional homes and shelters. One day I told God, ‘If you are real, I don’t want to do this, I don’t think this is my life, show yourself to me.’ And the next day He revealed Himself to me clearly.”
“He sent two ministers to me, they asked to hear my story, and they said, ‘Wow, we can’t leave here without giving you a place to go.’ So I went to a transition home and got off the streets, but I was hesitant because I didn’t want to leave my job. Then I heard God’s voice so clearly. He told me to go, so I dedicated my life to God on the street.”
“God pushed me to join Harbour Hope, and since then, my perspective in my life has changed. It’s an answered prayer having mentors and what is surprising to me is seeing my potential. I didn’t know I could do all these things, and now, I’m doing well at work and in life. I’m accomplishing goals, and looking forward to getting my degree, having my own house, and spreading my story to help others have faith despite what they’re going through.”
