We want to introduce you to someone incredibly special — one of our CHAMPIONS, Carole Jones.
Carole is the creator of our Comfort Bears, which she lovingly handcrafts for survivors and their children. These bears are more than just stuffed animals — they’re soft, soulful companions made to bring comfort, healing, and hope
But Carole’s compassion reaches even further. She donates these bears not only to us, but also to hospitals, emergency rooms, and police departments — providing comfort in some of life’s most difficult moments.
Her journey with the bears began in a moment of fear and uncertainty. After the events of 9/11, Carole was visiting her daughter in Oregon. When flights resumed, she had to fly home — scared and anxious to fly again after 9/11. She made a red, white, and blue bear, to be the first comfort bear. She held onto that bear the entire flight, and it gave her comfort when she needed it most.
That one bear turned into a mission.
Each of Carole’s bears is created with a powerful purpose:
Big ears to listen to your stories
No mouth so they can’t tell any secrets
No eyes so they never judge
Soft and cuddly, perfect for hugs — giving and receiving
Always there, no matter what
These bears have become treasured companions for survivors in our programs — a symbol of safety, understanding, and unconditional love.
Carole, thank you for wrapping survivors in warmth and kindness. Your heart shines through every single stitch.
